Why this race: This will be my first Half IM - I figured I would go big for the first one! And there is nothing like a vacation in St. Croix to look forward to once the race is over.

My power phrase: A quote I often remind myself of: "Anyone who has a continuous smile on their face conceals a toughness that is almost frightening." And "1,2,3,4..." creeps into my head during just about ever training!

My focus race is: St. Croix 70.3

My race goal(s): This is only the 3rd triathlon I've ever done and the other two were very short, sprint triathlons, so my goal is to race smart (i.e. not burn out early on) and have fun.

Why this race: This is what most people are thinking when I tell them I'm doing a 1/2 Ironman! I think I am most fascinated by the physiology of the body; that it is able to go through such a beating and still be able to stand at the end (at least I hope). It's a true test of your body's limits.

My power phrase: "Sometimes common sense isn't so common" - Scott Williams (my college cross-country and track coach) He always said this when he couldn't figure out why, after sending a summer running plan, athletes on our team still weren't in shape when the season started.
